Peter, Bjorn, & John - Writer's Block

Hello
lovelies. I'm on my way out the door to another fantastic
Rob
Szabo band show. We're on a string of 'em right now.
So I gotsta be brief. (Oi! Three posts, three underwear references!).
Things could not be better right now. Just been playing lots of
shows and having a grand olde time recording and making music and enjoying
the spring weather when time permits.
Big News: we have finished tracking the record!! Yep. That is a
pretty amazing milestone. Tons of work to do still, but recording is
done done done. Sure, an idea or fix/overdub may happen here and
there....but it's pretty much in the can. TONS more to talk about on
this front, but I just simply can't squeak it in right now.
Well I've got tonight's show, one more beauty theatre on Saturday night,
and then Cookie and I are off to the Dominican Republic at 6 AM Sunday.
I haven't packed yet. Yeah, things have been kinda hectic, but in
the best way possible. Like my motto, "it's a good problem to have".
So I'll get back the second week in April, and start mixing the record.
Exciting stuff.
Hey, if you wouldn't mind keeping an eye on things while I'm gone I'd
really appreciate it. Also wouldn't complain if the Leafs make the
playoffs, but I won't get greedy. There's enough goodness to go
'round already.
Much Love;

PLAYING:
Neil Young - Live At Massey Hall '71

Allo. I
know it might seem like I've been totally MIA, but I haven't. I've
just been wearing a lot of camouflage lately. Yeah, I'm
totally a soldier of rock, dwelling in basements trying to teach
people about freedom and the expressive song of the
red-breasted nuthatch.
(Hehe, coincidentally, I've got a nuthatch in my camo underoos!)
Yep, things are going really well.
We've had a lot of special guests drop by lately and lay down some tasty
musical goodness. I'll letcha know more about that later. As of this Sunday, all vocals will be done.
That's a super exciting milestone!! I've got another two weeks to
finish off the rest of the tracking and editing. Then Rob leaves for
tour, while Cookie and I split to chill out for a week in the Dominican.
Rough life, I know. I'll come back all refreshed and re-jooved and
ready to start mixing. It's all going as planned <evil laugh>!
<evil coughing from overdoing evil laugh>
Hey, check the
SHOWS page for details about a rare solo
set this upcoming Thursday in TO. It's gonna be a cool night with
some righteous music and fun fun fun comedy. Definitely not a
run-of-the-mill night. So come on out, 'cos Thursday is the new new
Friday.
If you come, don't be alarmed when you see a guitar that appears to be
floating on air. It's me, Coop, I'm just wearing my camouflage
again.

Neil Young - Live At Massey Hall '71

Wow.
Been a while, huh?
Weather around here is so funny.
it's been the shittiest couple weeks in a while, then inexplicably jumps
to 14 for a couple days. it's such a Canadian thing, too -- people take off
their jackets, toss on shorts...it's like we're all dead flowers,
denied of our nutrients. Random days like these come along and it's "oh look, the sun!" and we irrationally
and prematurely think it's time to bloom. Of course, the next day
it's freezing again, depression levels skyrocket, fresh tendrils wilt.
Picked up Neil Young's "Live At
Massey Hall 1971" the other day and am having my head completely bent
by it. It was recorded just before "Harvest" came out, and
it's so eerie to listen to him play and talk about now-classic tunes like
"Old Man" and "Needle & The Damage Done" to an unsuspecting
audience. No one had ever heard these songs before and it's
fascinating knowing what we know now; the resonating depth of his wisdom
(in hindsight) could shatter windows. Everyone should own this
record.
Something else
real quick. The day this album came out, I popped into my fave
record shop
Criminal Records (they rule!) and they
didn't have it in stock. They were "shorted" a bunch of releases,
actually. These guys are amazing, they only carry the best music,
and instead of adopting a snobby, elitist attitude about it, they are
friendly as all get out and easily have the best prices in the city.
Sorry, I digress...my point is this: how are small shops supposed to
stay in business when the big chains eat up and warehouse all the
merchandise on them? It's hard enough out there for the small guy,
but at least give them a chance to compete!! The big guys aren't
playing fair anymore.
So remember to always support the little guy - like I do by buying lots of
tightie-whitey underwear from garage sales.
