+ JAN 23rd, 2007  NOW PLAYING:  The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Like the beginning of any new year, I needed to get myself a nice calendar to hang in the studio.  So I went to one of those ad-hoc seasonal stores they always open in malls and stuff to get rid of the crap they didn't sell at Xmas time.  As I browsed through the store, I of course found all the usual suspects: bikini babes, classic cars, golf courses, sports teams, and Anne Geddes.

There were also a bazillion pop culture options, like bands and televisions shows, movie stars and Jon Bon Jovi.  So many options I got a little overwhelmed, wondering to myself "what type of calendar defines me as a person?" I was perplexed.

But then I found the perfect calendar that matched my sensibilities.  I was delighted and still giggle at the randomness of it all.

Hey suck on this, Dilbert:

Who knew you could have so much fun with a friggin' calendar!!??

+ JAN 8th, 2007  NOW PLAYING:  Midlake - The Trials Of Van Ocupanther

Well I've established some new kind of routine where I'm back at it, working hard, exercising, eating better.  Call it an improved outlook, call it better living...hell, call everyone you know and tell them I've finally stopped eating out of the garbage can.  Whatever you do, please don't call it a resolution.

I'd rather play Piņata with my crotch and a live wasp nest than have a new year's resolution.

+ JAN 3rd, 2007  NOW PLAYING:  Neil Young - On The Beach

Heya, Happy Nude Year everyone!  Hope you all had amazing holidays with your families and loved ones.  Mine was great.  Without as many obligations, I happily sunk back into my natural timeclock, which basically means staying up to about 2-ish, sleep until about 10-ish.  It felt gooood.

I won't go on about the weather, but it was kind of surreal being up north and not having any snow on Xmas day.  It felt like I should be out raking leaves, not unwrapping socks and undies and fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la'ing all around my folk's house.

So other than eating my weight in baked goods and nuts, Rob and I kept the tape rolling in the studio and have now finished a lot of the guitars for the album.  My new guitar through the class A preamps I've got now, plus my Neumann mic sounds like god.  It's kind of ridiculous.  Having Rob on the deck make tracking guitar takes quick and painless, too.  I can actually just sit in the booth and concentrate on what I'm doing, rather than running back out every 15 seconds to adjust the rig and/or start over.  Hey, a musician getting to be a musician!  What a novel concept!

Oh, there are some new pix in the
GALLERY from some of the latest studio action!

The other exciting thing is that I got an
Mbox2 Mini and can now use Pro Tools on my laptop for recording, editing, and compiling takes on the go.  It's great.  As much as I love it in the studio, it's still so healthy to get out of here and sit in my underwear at home.  On those nights I can't sleep, I can just toss on my headphones and actually get something accomplished.  And by accomplished, I mean not watching infomercials for spray-on hair and "Call Now!" ladies on every other channel.

Thanks so much to all of you who helped to make 2006 so great and memorable.  I had some amazing musical moments that I truly cherish, and met so many fantastic people it hurts me wee heart to think about.  Whether you came to a show(s), bought a record, or lent your support in any capacity...my sincere thanks go out to YOU.

All the best in 2007.  Oooh, I can already feel it working.
