+ FEBRUARY 15th, 2008  NOW PLAYING:  Calexico - Feast Of Wire

It was my intention to get all my bloggin' and journalin' fully updated before we head off to Cuba on Sunday for two weeks!  (rub, rub, nudge, shprionkle)  Suffice it to say, I failed miserably.  Sawry.  I did manage to write out a long entry in praise of the new Diamond Shreddies (they're so much better!), but then I realized "whoops! joke's on me"!  That's not the first time the folks at Post Cereals have pulled the wool over our eyes.  Lest we not forget the whole "hey, my Sugar Crisp tastes like urine!" debacle from '97.

Oh, I also meant to share this Fun Energy Fact: I have not yet had to turn on the heat in our apartment this year. Miraculously, through various thermal physics, we've been able to maintain things at roughly room temperature so far.  The new people that live below us must keep 'er cranked!  So basically, if it gets a little chilly, we shut the window and it heats right up.  If it gets a little hot, we open the window back up. It's unbelievable.  Yes, yes...both Terry Fox and I are true Canadian heroes.

So yeah, Cuba.  If you could please hold the fort down until we get back, that'd be great.  I knew I could count on you.

Much Love & Even More Cervezas!

+ FEBRUARY 8th, 2008  NOW PLAYING:  The Helio Sequence - Keep Your...

Wow.  What an eventful January.  It's been quite a few weeks there, I tellyawhut.  A bunch of shows, a trip up north for a funeral and a birthday, and now I'm back at it.  Unlike other artists who tour incessantly, I get in a bit of a groove of performing and meeting cool new people, and then it comes to a screeching halt.  It's strange, but all part of my sporadic, casual, once-in-a-while world takeover plan.

It's going to take me a while (hasn't it already!!?) to write about the past few weeks, but for now I'll start you off with Ottawa.  The rest will be coming soon.  And it better 'cos in two Sunday's from now, Cookie and I are off to Cuba for two weeks.  No one wants to read about January events in March.  Plus, I will no doubt be distracted as I make my attempt to set a new world record for Longest Time In The Sun Without Moving AKA: Deepest Lounge Chair Grooves in a Human Being's Skin.

Ahem.  Onto Ottawa, then.  Our nation's capital.  Yes.

Weekend of Jan 19th.  Ottawa, ON.

I was supposed to start off this weekend with an intimate house concert in Barrie by the Barrie Folk Society, but it unfortunately was postponed for a variety of reasons.  Not to worry, we'll get it happening again and let you know all about it.   The weekend went from a crazy Toronto to Barrie to Ottawa kind of pace, to a more relaxed direct-to-Ottawa kinda deal.

Ottawa was amazing.  I opened the night for my wonderfully talented friends The Good Lovelies in a jam packed little folk bar called Rasputin's.  An entire room filled with music lovers were silent, attentive, and graciously listening to me play.  It was stupendous...I wish all shows could be like this one.  I even got them all singing at the end to an off-mic version of "Goodbye City" which is quickly becoming my favourite thing to do.  You can see how it all went down on Youtube RIGHT HERE.  I also got to see some old friends, meet some great new people.   My good friend Mike Yates graciously swung (is that a word? swung?) by the club with his beautiful cello to help me out on a few tunes.  Always a pleasure to hang out with Mike and play music together.  Yes!

The Lovelies played one of the best sets I've seen them play, which is saying a lot because they're always pretty dang fab...man, keep your ears to the ground with those kittens 'cos they're going places.  They've been holed up in a sweet recording studio all week laying down what will inevitably become their stunning new record.  You will be hearing things, trust me.  They're so good it's ridiculous.

Oh yeah, IndieLaunchpad's Colin Meeks was in attendance as well.  He's been very supportive of my album the last few months and had these nice words to say on his website:  "While Scott Cooper was performing his “Insomnia Song”, I was in heaven, because as well as Scott singing, I had the Good Lovelies standing next to me, singing somewhat subdued harmonies, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven!"

What a nice man, eh?  I think so...check out his amazing website and podcasts to hear some great new music.  Yee-haw!

Right.  The night was an absolute blast, and was capped off with some very fine friends and even more tasty Hoegaarden pints in a nearby pub.  Considering it was about -30 in the city, you'd never know it with such warm and lovely friends around sharing stories and ideas.

Sunday morning, Cookie and I braved the frigid temperature to go rustle up some breakfast.  It was indeed freezing, but the sun was shining brightly, so we huddled up and ran a few blocks until we found a Cora's.  Tasty!  We had a lovely brekkie, and spent the rest of the morning lounging around our swank and sun-filled hotel suite (thanks, Cath!) reflecting on the amazing weekend and avoiding checking out at all costs.  Robe-clad and relaxed, we read, drank coffee, and got ourselves super jacked up for our upcoming vacation.

Much Love & Stuff;
