Sarah Slean - The Baroness

Holy frickin' beans, it's been a while. Sorry about that.
This is how we roll in the Great Time Vortex. This is the longest
period I've gone without a blog entry in the the 7 years I've been writing
here. Yes I know there's only 4.5 years of archives, but it all
exists, trust me. It's just not here. One day.
I've been having challenges managing my new schedule of studio work in the
city, Stellula Music
In Schools work, house renos, and of course my responsibilities as
Poppa Coop (and the necessary shirking of said responsibilities with beer
and BBQ consumption). Where is a guy supposed to find the time to
write and record a new album? I have no idea. If the next
project is going to see the light of day before 2010, it's definitely
going to be an EP. That's definitely not enough material for a Space
Odyssey if you're paying attention.
My shows have been few and far between, but I did have a wonderful
hometown "homecoming" show in Midland a few weeks back and it was a really
special night. A lot of the tunes on the record are about heavy
changes, and gaining perspective on ones place in the world...SO, it was
really amazing coming back with my head and heart in a new town and to see
how it all felt laying it all out there. Lots of you have been
mentioning my "Highway 93" monologue from the show, so you'll be
happy to know it was recorded and I'll have that up on here in the next
couple weeks. Stay tuned for that.
Our youngster Sam will be one year old on May 26th. He's barely
weeks away from walking on his own, and it's opened up a whole new world
of shenanigans (and fun, too!). He can pull himself up on just about
anything, and then he shimmies and shuffles along and goes straight for
that one thing he's not supposed to have. He can zip along a wall
and through doorways and reach across to the couch and jam his finger in a
light socket before you can butter your toast. He's like a monkey
with no tree climbing skills and a severe disdain for bananas. So I
guess he's not like a monkey at all. Although he does share their
affection for face-making and wang pulling...so maybe that evens things
out.
Some other things:
+ Who knew that Elmvale Distict High School is absolutely lousy
with super talented singer-songwriters? Holy crap, the talent fairy
barfed all over that place. It's ridiculous. These youngsters
are doing things in their teens I couldn't even comprehend when I was
their age. Jeebus. (Between you and me, I still don't
comprehend most of anything.) And where did they get such
confidence!?
+ People talk and say a lot of things, and I can't help but keep the BS
detector settings on 'high'. Probably saves me grief a lot of the
time, but it probably makes me miss seeing the humanity in other
instances. Then again, if you want people to get on board it's
probably best to be direct and quit working the angles. Be honest
and we'll all perceive it.
+
Being green is not driving a Prius somewhere you could
easily walk or ride a bike.
+ Way behind on movies, but we've been chipping away at the Ziplist.
The 3:10 To
Yuma remake is fantastic.
30 Rock
is funny as balls. I've also got Season 3 of
The Venture
Bros. on the shelf waiting for action but haven't had time for it yet.
Hellboy 2 was the dumbest thing I've seen in my entire life and am
pissed I'll never get that time back. If you want good TV,
Californication is the best current series whereas the 2nd season of
Flight Of The Conchords was a major disappointment. Other
than
THIS, I mean.

Laura Veirs - Year Of Meteors
Why would anyone attempt to make great art once they know that THIS
already exists in the world? I
am demotivated to say the least. Is there room on this lovely
planet for the both of us!?

Much Love & Stuff,
